Quote Women's Champion Charlotte comes out to the ring next and gets on the mic. She says she's excited to be challenged by Asuka, and then she calls her out to the ring. Asuka comes down and Charlotte tells her to be careful what she wishes for. Flair says she welcomes the challenge, and looks forward to ending Asuka's streak. Asuka says she likes a challenge, but no one is ready for her. Asuka and Flair come nose to nose as the music hits.

Boring segment. One says she's the queen (we already know) and one says she's an Empress (we already know). Nothing new, just Asuka shouting for no reason as usual.

When the music of Randall hit I thought maybe E are thinking out of the box by having a top make superstar give his views on the match with a bit of a rub.

Instead it appeared that the women just rambled for too long and they were running out of time.

I completely disagree. I was just coming into this thread to say I appreciate how they didn't make this into the average feud where people talk trash to each other and instead Charlotte stated that she respected Asuka and even that she was excited when Asuka's music hit to challenge her. I also liked how Asuka said she wanted a challenge. It was a good segment.

In a way this feud parallels the AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura rivalry in the sense of them wanting to have that good tear the house down match while still maintaining that mutual respect. for each other.

I am looking for Charlotte vs Asuka to steal the show at WrestleMania.

Post 3 about this drab storyline in around a month LOL....

Quote Women’s Title Match: Charlotte vs. Asuka: The opening bell sounds and the two women trade take downs early on. Charlotte starts laying into Asuka with chops, and then some knees in the corner. Charlotte gets tied up in the ropes and Asuka hits some kicks and knees. Charlotte comes back with a neckbreaker and drops Asuka. Asuka starts firing up and repeatedly stomps Charlotte in the head. They fight out to the apron and Asuka hits a suplex off the apron onto the ringside floor, and Charlotte is hurt. Back in the ring, Charlotte and Asuka get in each other’s faces, and Asuka drops her with a series of strikes. Asuka continues the beat down on Charlotte now as she drags her from corner to corner. Asuka goes up top, but Charlotte stuns her with some chops. Charlotte hits a Spanish Fly off the top. They’re both slow to get up, and Asuka catches Charlotte in a submission. Charlotte breaks out and goes for the Figure Four, but Asuka breaks free. Charlotte comes back with a spear and looks for the Figure four again, and this time she locks it in. She makes it a Figure Eight, and Asuka taps out.

Winner & still Women’s Champion: Charlotte

– After the match, Asuka and Charlotte come face to face. Asuka gets on the mic and says Charlotte was ready for Asuka and congratulates her. They hug and raise their hands in the air.

Shocked to see Asuka tap, but happy the boring streak has finally ended, so we can see where she goes from here.

I wish she had laid out Charlotte instead of showing respect. Japanese lady gone Brian Pilman crazy would have been a Wrestlemania moment.

I'm not sure we will see a rematch from them, but you never know.

Shock decision to have Charlotte win and end the streak but it would have to end eventually and what better way to do it than in a major match at the biggest event against a more than worthy opponent. Charlotte at least deserves the accolade of ending Asuka's streak unlike Lesnar who ended the more legendary streak of The Undertaker.

Asuka can easily bounce back from this, there was no shame in losing to arguably the top female talent in the company in what was a very decent hard fought even sided contest. Will be interesting to see if they continue the series between these two or if this was a one and done given that officially they are on different brands.

@Fletch

I have no problem at all with Asuka losing her streak here, i think her losing it at WrestleMania was the most appropriate place for it to happen.

Although i am a huge Asuka fan, and would have loved to see her win the title, having Charlotte win was a bit of a shock to me, but it didn't make me mad or anything.

I agree with you that i don't think this damages Asuka, her and Charlotte could have a good rivalry all the way to SummerSlam if she moves to SmackDown after the rumoured shakeup

Charlotte was the best person to end the streak, Most decorated wrestler on the roster and has held the NXT, Diva and Women's belts. It's better she lose on the biggest stage of them all rather than in a throwaway match at Battleground or some other C level PPV.

People keep saying it's ok that Asuka lost here, but I don't think it is. What do you do with her now? She doesn't get a rematch against Charlotte. What's she gonna do job to Rousey? She's not the smackdown women's champion, so she's not on Smackdown, but on Raw she's beaten everyone but Rousey, and if you think Asuka's gonna beat Rousey at the next PPV, you're crazy.

Clearly the better storyline was to have Asuka win, turn heel and then focus the storylines on who can defeat and dethrone the champion. Now Charlotte got yet another wrestlemania moment she didn't need at the expense of someone who could have done a whole lot more with it, and there's no where to go that makes sense. WWE Logic is going to have to work itself into knots like always to go forward from this, and it's going to be garbage like it usually is.

Had the show gone differently and the this had been the only screwy finish it'd be a lot more palatable but the show started out good and just went downhill, and now something that might have been workable is just a needle in the haystack of shit that WWE needs to deal with and stands a very real chance of just getting forgotten about in lieu of more 'important' storylines that'll get more viewership and swept under the rug ala every other foreign competitor that WWE raises up only to get conquered by the local homegrown talent.

It should have been Charlotte, yes, but it should have been Charlotte after losing the title, and then using circumstances to keep her away from her rematch until Summerslam and after Asuka had turned heel and new storylines and feuds had been opened up to her now that her character had evolved into something different than the unstoppable force. The (semi?) main event of summerslam could have been Charlotte taking the title back and ending the streak at an event that claims to be nearly as big, but as of late has struggled mightily to get the same notoriety.

I agree a Asuka win would seem to present the better options but this wasn't the worst booking decision last night and I'm prepared to see where WWE go with this and whats next for Asuka, perhaps they just wanted to give Charlotte the big Wrestlemania moment and they will book a rematch at Backlash which will see Asuka get the win this time. It may also have been a case of they didn't want to move Asuka to Smackdown which I also get, a smart move would be to switch Charlotte to Raw in the next roster shuffle then maybe Asuka can get the rematch win at Summerslam.

"I agree a Asuka win would seem to present the better options but this wasn't the worst booking decision last night"

And I agree it's not the worst booking decision last night either, but I think every other bad booking decision made this one worse as the night went on.

"perhaps they just wanted to give Charlotte the big Wrestlemania moment"

Charlotte already had a big wrestlemania moment, that's the thing. She stole the show with Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks and by becoming the first even Raw Women's Champion. It doesn't get much bigger than that, and this wasn't as big a moment as that.

My fear here is that Asuka is just going to start slipping down the card now like every other dominant foreign star WWE employs. Asuka deserves better than that.

I must admit my first thought when Asuka tapped was well that’s the end of her push and I suddenly had visions of her jobbing to Naomi in short toilet break matches.

I really hope that’s not the case and Asuka continues on a tear through the roster. A future match between Ronda Rousey and Asuka would have more value if Asuka was still undefeated, perhaps the plan is now for Rousey to face Charlotte.
