In case you missed it (and since its ROH, just about all wrestling fans missed it LOL), Charlie Haas retired at a ROH house show (they do exist) over the weekend.

The dirtsheets say its legit:

Quote According to PWtorch, Charlie Haas is no longer a member of the ROH roster after a backstage altercation with Grizzly Redwood last Saturday at ROH's house show in North Carolina. Sources say that tension had been building between the underneath talent and Haas for a long period of time as they had considered Haas a bully. It was said that Haas was used to the WWE way of doing things backstage and tried to bring that WWE philosophy to the ROH locker room. The ROH locker room thrives on all of the guys helping and motivating each other.

Haas was said to not be himself on Saturday, and appeared intoxicated backstage. Sources say that Haas and Redwood had gotten into an argument several weeks ago, and then got into another altercation on Saturday during the intermission. ROH booker Hunter Johnson (Delirious) yelled at both guys and Haas went crazy. Kevin Kelly tried to calm things down, but indications are that Haas turned on him as well. Management did not want Haas to wrestle, but they felt they could not stop him from going to the ring.

Live reports from the event state that they could hear the commotion going on backstage right before Haas was set to come out and Wrestle Jeff Neal after intermission. Haas came out for his match and announced his retirement. According to sources, management turned off his mic, but Haas could still be heard taking shots at Johnson and Kelly during his promo. Haas was the one that changed the finish for his match and put over Neal. Haas was also said to be crying during the match.

Haas tried to cut another promo after the match, but management would not give him a mic, so he then shouted that his iPPV match with Shelton Benjamin was off and then took shots at Kelly and Delirious before leaving the ring.

Sources say that many of the wrestlers are disappointed in Haas's actions. Redwood is a popular figure backstage and it was said to have made Haas look bad for allegedly bullying someone much smaller than him. It has also been said that Haas was actually fired before the match, and went out and did the retirement speech as a way to save face.

Remember when Haas had so much potential as one third of Team Angle, such a waste.

Looks like ROH isnt the happy place the internet journalists and smarks desperately try to potray it as.

Nontheless I still hope he and Benjamin find their way to TNA even for a short while because WGTT vs Bad Influences or WGTT vs Dirty Heels would be awesome.

I too would still like to see Charlie Haas & Sheldon Benjamin get a run with TNA. Honestly I think the timing would be perfect right now. It would make sense for Kurt Angle to call in some friends to assist against the Aces & Eights.

However... Charlie & his wife Jackie have been running their own business on the side for years. I've heard Haas say in interviews that he was only wrestling because he enjoyed it. So I think there's also a very real chance that Haas might actually retire.

A story like this is likely to get Charlie Haas a flood of offers. He just might have to do a retirement tour.

If he hadn't walked away from ROH under those circumstances, then, sure he would've gotten lots of offers from various promotions, including WWE & TNA (hell, I'd love just like anybody to see WGTT in action against Bad Influence & Dirty Heels!). But given what happened, is any promoter willing to let Charlie Haas act backstage the way he did in the ROH locker room this weekend? That's something to think about, regardless of the size of your promotion.

I voted "Who cares? He sucks!" not because he sucks, but because he is way over the fuck rated. Like, people say Daniel Bryan is overrated? Goddamnfuck. Daniel Bryan is Rick Rude compared to Charlie Haas.

He was a pretty good technical wrestler, but lets face it, he was stuck behind a tag partner through out his entire career. Whether be his more athletic partner in Shelton Benjamin with the WGTT, with his more charismatic partner in Rico, or even being cast with 'The World's Largest Love Machine' Viscera in what ever the hell that jobber team was suppose to be. Simply put, Charlie was alright, but nothing tremendous. His biggest claim to fame besides his run in Team Angle or The Love Triangle with Jackie and Dawn is winning a Slammy for doing his fairly entertaining impersonations (Anyone remember The GlamaHaas? Charlie Haas Layfield? The Great Charli? Haas Hogan?!)

I think that there's nothing wrong with being a great tag team guy. I've never heard anyone devalue Joe Laurinatis as being "just" a tag team guy. Because people recognize that the Road Warriors were a great team. Similarly (but not to the same extent) WGTT was one of the best tag teams in the last 10 years. Had WWE been smart enough to have kept them together I think most people include them in the list of all-time great tag teams. Unfortunately the WWE has this weird fixation that every tag team is like the Rockers or Hart Foundation - a team with 1 break-out superstar and 1 steady-handed jobber. But looking back most teams were actually like Demolition, The Road Warriors, New Age Outlaws, Rock 'N' Roll Express and Midnight Express--2 guys that together were greater than the sum of their parts.

I've never thought of Haas that needed to rely upon a partner to carry him. I think of Haas as a guy that helps make others around him great. People thought Sheldon Benjamin looked like a future champion. People thought that after seeing him work with Haas. I think it was no surprise that shortly after Benjamin got released by WWE, he quickly reunited with Haas.

Anyway, I hope that he does retire while he is healthy. I hate seeing guys only retire because of physical injury. But I still wouldn't mind seeing WGTT in TNA for even just a short program.

Great gimmick, IMO.

Showed more personality in that month than he ever did with that charisma-free-zone Shelton.

Oh, as for the question, he'll carry on wrestling in the bush leagues because wrestlers don't retire, they die. Sad but true fact.

WGTG is still probably my favourite tag team so I'm really hoping this means a run in TNA for them. I prefer Benjamin, though Haas was a great partner for him.

I'd rather Benjamin just get his own push in a company.

Won't happen, Benjamin is a charismatic black [no pun] hole and botches too regularly to be anything other than a midcarder wrapped up in the collective wet dreams of the IWC.
