As noted, WWE officially announced the news on Tuesday (June 19, 2018) that they had released Big Cass from his contract. There’s no word yet on what led to the WWE making this decision to release him.

Cass had been under contract with the WWE since 2011. WWE issued the following statement:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass).”

In an update, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Vince McMahon called a meeting at SmackDown in Toledo today and fired Cass. There’s speculation that an incident that happened last month may have gotten him in some heat with WWE officials.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that Cass upset WWE officials because he went off-script during a segment on an episode of SmackDown Live on the USA Network that involved a little person, who was dressed as Daniel Bryan and ended with Cass beating him down in the middle of the ring.

The original idea was for Cass to hit a big boot to the person and stand tall but he wanted and eventually did a spot where he hit the big boot then connected with several punches.

It won't be just that. Everyone can make a mistake and if it was he would have been released then I reckon.

Something since that incident has probably happen and with his dull matches, dull promos and injury record he's simply not worth the time.

Poor guy hasn't even been released soon enough to be part of All In even if they would have wanted him to be.

I disagree Adders - releasing him then would have totally ruined Bryans comeback and left him without any one to face and in the middle of a storyline where theyd have to somehow explain why it ended.

Theyve done it at the perfect time now that Cass has lost both matches to Bryan and the feud was as good as over.

Cass is not good enough to be in All In - cant even imagine him working a decent promo unscripted - hes practically cardboard

No big loss...he's still young enough to go elsewhere and become a better performer....or he'll end up at Impact with Zo.

Quote According to Sports Illustrated, Big Cass was released yesterday from his WWE contract in large part due to his "personal conduct" - specifically his excessive drinking in public during the recently completed European tour as well as general attitude issues. The drinking is said to be one of the major underlying reasons for his firing.

-- Pro Wrestling Sheet adds that it wasn't just one incident that led to his dismissal and that on the European tour, one specific issue may have been the tipping point. While being shuttled on a bus, Cass went to use the bathroom which had a non-functioning lock. However, Cass thought he was being pranked and after being stuck inside for a long time, he ended up breaking the door down to get out. This meant that for the rest of the trip, other talent had to use the bathroom without a door. Some wrestlers were said to be understandably upset while others were more sympathetic.

-- This took place very soon after the Smackdown incident in which Cass beat up a "little person" even though he was clearly instructed not to do so by both WWE producers and Vince McMahon himself. Together, along with a couple of more minor incidents and his overall attitude very likely led his release.

After doing what Vince personally told him not to, you'd think he'd have been on best behaviour.

If he's drinking so often he should probably get some help before the situation gets worse.

I wasn't a fan but hope he does a Drew Mcintyre in improving himself and earning a second chance.

The toilet incident doesn’t sound like grounds for a release, I mean yeah it was a dumb thing to do but wow if that’s all it takes to get you released from WWE you’d be literally walking on egg shells the whole time.

Sounds like that incident was just the breaking point of what had been a long list of concerns about Cass’ conduct, going off script and excessive drinking when representing the company are things that will land you in hot water with management.

I thought Cass had potential, he just needed to work on his character and make everything seem more natural and real.

I do think a reunion of Big Cass and Enzo in TNA would be something to see as they would have more freedom on the mic than they had in WWE.

Former WWE Superstar Enzo Amore, who now goes by the name Real1 in the independent wrestling and hip-hop circles, took to social media today to post a tweet that has a lot of pro wrestling fans talking.

Soon after WWE announced the release of Big Cass on Tuesday afternoon, Real1 posted a tweet on his official Twitter page, which many are under the belief is an indirect reaction to the news.

Real1 simply wrote his catchphrase, "#HowYouDoin?" in a tweet that came out after WWE announced that Cass had been let go from the company.

As noted, Real1 and Cass have had a lot of backstage issues with each other, and the two reportedly do not speak to each other to this day. Real1 spoke at length about his issues with Cass in a recent shoot interview, which you can check out by clicking here.

With Don Callis in charge of Impact he will see a lot of himself in Cass with his build so will probably be interested in him.

I can see a Tenile Dashwood situation with him in that he will ask too much for indie shows, so he will have to lower his expectation.
