Australian View

The Future of Wrestling

Welcome everyone to the Epicenter of Wrestling Gospel, the Australia View with yours truly, the columnist you all want to be, Shane Mead. To start this edition of, I want to congratulate the Undertaker for winning his first Royal Rumble, being the first competitor to enter the Rumble at number 30 and win the most entertaining hour in wrestling. He will now go on to compete in the main even of what could be his last Wrestlemania. I would also like to give credit to John Cena and Umaga, who had a match, that was 10 times better than we had all expected. I would also like to wish all the best to Batista who seemed to have suffered a serious knee injury. He may have torn his MCL or ACL in his match with Mr Kennedy. My predictions for the Royal Rumble match were all correct with the exception of the ending of the ECW World Heavyweight Championship match, which was the most disappointing finish on the card.

The bulk of this column is to introduce some of the young talent that we will all become accustom to seeing in the near future. We all know about guys such as Kennedy, Randy Orton, A.J Styles and Samoa Joe, but what about the talent that has yet to appear on television in either TNA or the WWE. There are a group of young talent hidden in WWE development and in the Indies that are ready to get some exposure and take professional wrestling into the next generation. I’m talking about Teddy Hart, Nattie Neidhart, T.J Wilson and Harry Smith. This is a group of kids we have all been keeping an eye on and cant wait to see debut on television. These kids will bring with them a new excitement and optimism that has been lacking in recent times. Its time to go through each of these young stars one by one.

First we have Teddy Hart. This guy is the nephew of the legendary Bret Hart, but has a totally different style and persona. I see this guy as similar to the late great Brian Pillman. Hart, wrestlers a high flying style which was introduced to America by Pillman. Teddy Hart also is unpredictable and a great talker, who is not afraid to generate legit heat for himself. This guy can do all the innovating high spots and match it with the best on the ground. Teddy is at the present time involved in MTV’s Wrestling Society X, and is being perused by the WWE. Teddy is extremely confident in his own abilities but still knows he has a way to go before he is ready for the big time. This is a guy we need to keep an eye on.

The next guy I want to look at is T.J Wilson. The Stampede Kid out of Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling is another great worker that is in WWE development until he fulfils is outside commitments. This guy was practically adopted into the Hart Family when he befriended Ted Hart at a very young age. T.J has made the most out of this situation and is regarded as the evolution of Chris Benoit. In Stampede Wrestling, he has had classic matches against Harry Smith and as his tag team partner. The Stampede Kid has developed his mat wrestling ability and technique to be worthy of the comparison to Chris Benoit.

Nattie Neidhart is another worker with a lot of hype surrounding her. She is currently dating T.J Wilson and the first female third generation star (Daughter of Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart) to be signed to the WWE (development deal). Nattie in the ring is as strong and fluent as Chyna with the body of a Torrie Wilson. She developed her in-ring ability to be able to get in their with the boys, but also maintained a ‘WWE Diva; body in the process. Nattie has been trained in Canada but mixed it up with some of the toughest women over in Japan. She is the type of women we have all been asking for to be apart of the WWE’S failing Women’s Division. She has the looks and the talent, and will go along way to freshen up women’s wrestling.

Finally we have the man who will take over as the next big thing in wrestling. The son of ‘British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith and he resembles him in every way.. This guy is a mountain of a man, with great charisma and the in-ring ability to go with the best. He has been dubbed (by me) as the Hulk Hogan of this generation. Harry Smith went ahead and learnt this business the hard way. He started off being trained in Stampede Wrestling and then ventured out into the world wrestling in Japan, Mexico and learning the business the hard way…old school. Just like Hogan, Harry can wrestle any style of wrestling from a mat based, submission style to the power house style and the knowledge to utilise it effectively. He has a great look, in-ring talent and incredible charisma. We have been looking for the next big thing and we may have found him.

If you have a sense you would have noticed the connection between this four workers. They all have a great wrestling heritage, have been signed or being perused by the WWE. These are the four that I see as the leaders of the next generation of wrestlers and the WWE sees that in them. They are all very different, and stand out in their own way. It’s a very exciting time in wrestling when you know what is around the corner. The next batch of talented superstars are about to set the wrestling world a buzz.

This is Shane Mead, and if you don’t like it…it must be true!

WWE are really going to tease us about them being called up and that. They could keep it dragging on for a long time as of yet. Teddy is very talented in the ring. However his whole attitude could be cause for concern in the huge WWE environment. Nattie has the build and body to take on some of the men. Difference to Chyna is that she is actually good looking and doesn't look like a man. A good column about the future stars of this business we love. I just hope not too much pressure is put on them to perform.

After Wrestlemania Harry Smith will be seen on t.v. I have a source, who mentions it on his audio show.
