Who do guys and gals think is going to win the Aussie Open of 2007? My pick right now is Amelie Mauresmo, I reckon she may take the cake and prize aswell with it. Justine Henin-Hardenne has pulled out due to personal problems rumoured to be with her husband. Maria Sharapova may also do it, and I believe she can.

I doubt any of the Williams sisters will do it this time around, and its been quite awhile since one of them have won a grand slam.

The seedings are:

AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2007 MENíS AND WOMENíS SEEDS

Men Women

1. Roger Federer (SUI) 1. Maria Sharapova (RUS)

2. Rafael Nadal (ESP) 2. Amelie Mauresmo (FRA)

3. Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) 3. Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)

4. Ivan Ljubicic (CRO) 4. Kim Clijsters (BEL)

5. James Blake (USA) 5. Nadia Petrova (RUS)

6. Andy Roddick (USA) 6. Martina Hingis (SUI)

7. Tommy Robredo (ESP) 7. Elena Dementieva (RUS)

8. David Nalbandian (ARG) 8. Patty Schnyder (SUI)

9. Mario Ancic (CRO) 9. Dinara Safina (RUS)

10. Fernando Gonzalez (CHI) 10. Nicole Vaidisova (CZE)

11. Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) 11. Jelena Jankovic (SRB)

12. Tommy Haas (GER) 12. Anna Chakvetadze (RUS)

13. Tomas Berdych (CZE) 13. Ana Ivanovic (SRB)

14. Novak Djokovic (SRB) 14. Francesca Schiavone (ITA)

15. Andy Murray (GBR) 15. Daniela Hantuchova (SVK)

16. David Ferrer (ESP) 16. Shahar Peer (ISR)

17. Jarkko Nieminen (FIN) 17. Anna-Lena Groenefeld (GER)

18. Richard Gasquet (FRA) 18. Marion Bartoli (FRA)

19. Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) 19. Na Li (CHN)

20. Radek Stepanek (CZE) 20. Tatiana Golovin (FRA)

21. Dmitry Tursunov (RUS) 21. Katarina Srebotnik (SLO)

22. Dominik Hrbaty (SVK) 22. Vera Zvonareva (RUS)

23. Robin Soderling (SWE) 23. Ai Sugiyama (JPN)

24. Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) 24. Samantha Stosur (AUS)

25. Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) 25. Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP)

26. Marat Safin (RUS) 26. Maria Kirilenko (RUS)

27. Jose Acasuso (ARG) 27. Mara Santangelo (ITA)

28. Sebastien Grosjean (FRA) 28. Flavia Pennetta (ITA)

29. Xavier Malisse (BEL) 29. Alona Bondarenko (UKR)

30. Agustin Calleri (ARG) 30. Tathiana Garbin (ITA)

31. Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI) 31. Jie Zheng (CHN)

32. Nicolas Almagro (ESP) 32. Eleni Daniilidou (GRE)

Samantha Stosur, the Aussie female player is seeded 24 and she is probably the only Aussie along with Alicia Molik to go far in this tourney. Nicole Pratt, im 50-50 on, she may also go far along with Molik and Stosur, depending on who they are facing.

Here are the men's draws:

Im gona detail Australia, since I am Australian...

Wayne Arthurs first plays Stefan Koubek (AUT).

Alun Jones first plays Marc Gicquel (FRA) and if he wins that he most likely will play Andy Roddick (USA) in the 2nd round.

Chris Guccioni plays Oliver Rochus (BEL) and if he wins that he may play Sebastion Grosjean (FRA) in the 2nd round.

Robert Smeets plays Lukas Lacko (SVK). Another unknown Australian, I doubt he along with Jones & Guccioni will survive pass the 1st round.

Peter Luczak plays Alex Kuznetsov (USA) and if Luczak survives that he will play either Carlos Moya (ESP) or James Blake (USA) in the second round. I believe Luczak will beat his first opponent but will lose his second round match.

Lleyton Hewitt plays Michael Russell (USA) and I believe he will pass upto the 3rd Round, as the two opponents in the second round he may face are both unknown.

Those are the men, i expect Hewitt, Luczak and Arthurs to make the 2nd round, with Hewitt going to the third round, as for Arthurs maybe to the third round depending.

Sophie Ferguson plays Jelena Kostanic (CRO) and if she wins that she may play Samantha Stosur (AUS) as Stosur plays Klara Zakoplova (CZE).

Alicia Molik plays Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) and if she wins that she may play 28th seed Flavia Pennetta (ITA), thats if Flavia can pass her opponent.

Nicole Pratt plays Virginie Razzano (FRA).

Monique Adamczak plays big breasted Iroda Tulyaganova (UZB) and if she wins that she may play another Aussie in Jessica Moore who plays Kuznetsova (RUS) who's seeded number 3.

Casey Dellacgua plays 21 seed Katarina Srebotnik (SLO).

As for the women, I believe Stosur, Molik and Pratt to make the 2nd round, with Stosur, Molik & Pratt most likely making it to the 3rd round. I dont feel Casey, Moore and Ferguson will pass there first opponents, while Monique is a possibility as she may defeat the big breasted Iroda.

I will pick Sharapova and Roddick for the draws. Roddick did well this weekend to beat Federer who's not had the best start to the new year. He's also had a very good winter of training in the off season. Maria will be up for this more than ever considering the US final back in September. Martina Hingis is very capable of winning this. Just look how good she did last year for someone in there first month back. I have high hopes for our very own Andy Murray. In his two events this year he's come 2nd and 3rd which is a healthy start. His fitness now is way better then it's ever been before.

Andy Murray, ive never heard of him. He plays Alberto Martin (ESP) in the first round and then 2 others with weird names, lol, but yeah, I expect him to go to the 3rd round and really he could even be able to make the 4th round I reckon, so im going to say Murray will hopefully make it to the 4th round.

This will also be Kim Clijsters last year at the Australian Open and last year as a tennis player as shes getting married soon and retiring from the game. So another huge loss to the WTA Tour, shes marrying an Australian basketballer and shes only 23 years old, its going to be a huge blow and im certainly going to miss her.

Andy Murray is seeded 15th and got a piss easy route into the second week. One of the few players to beat Roger Federer last year and never been thrashed by him. I don't know about winning it, but he can get to the final eight no problem. Clijsters had a good start to the year by already winning an event. So it seems at the moment she is happy and concentrating really well on her tennis. Leyton Hewitt as really dropped off in recent years. He is going to have to buck his ideas up as expectation will be high for his home slam.

The players to watch out for are: Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, those 2 in themselves are 2 of the best players today and yeah these guys i reckon will go far in the Aussie Open. Andy Murray will i believe make the 3rd round, possibly even make the 4th round. It all depends on Lleyton Hewitt where he can go as he hasnt played much tennis for quite some time, so who knows with him.

Roddick & Federer are the 2 u just gotta watch out for during this Open.

We are a forum not a news site remember mate Wink What a sad state of affairs when the most talked about incident from day one is not the tennis. Amazed to see 150 Serbians and Croatians thrown out of the Rod Laver arena for fighting. Most people know about the trouble between the two countries. However bringing it to a tennis match is rather sad. Ivan Ljubicic going out as seed number 4 is seen has shock of the day. But Mardy Fish is no pushover and showed he's what it takes today to have a great season. The early draws for the women are always easy wins which is boring.

^ Sorry mate, lol, i got bored so I did that... Anyway was there a fight? Damn and I missed it, lol, ah well... Shit happens aye...

Re-Edit
Alicia Molik has won into the second round Big%20smile, she defeated Yung-Jan Che (TPE) 6-2, 7-6 in a good match. She joins Monique Adamczack (who defeated Iroda Tulyaganova) into the second round.

Unfortunately Jessica Moore and Casey Dellacqua couldnt get further but they had tough opposition in Kuznetsova & Srebotnik. Dellacqua gave it a good go, losing in 3 sets to Srebotnik (21). Moore just wasnt good enough for Kuznetsova (3) losing 6-2, 6-1.

Samantha Stosur has joined Monique and Molik into the second round after defeating her opponent in straight sets. So thats 3 Australian women who have stepped up to the second round.

Stosur now plays the winner out of Australian, Sophie Ferguson and Jelena Kostanic from Croatia

Molik now plays the winner out of the 28th seed and some hard name that I cant be bothered spelling.

Monique now plays Kuznetsova (who defeated Moore), I dont believe Monique can win this one, I was surprised to see her make it pass Iroda and I really dont believe she can do it again against number 3 seed Kuznetsova from Russia.

Ferguson and Nicole Pratt are playing now, Pratt is playing French woman Razzano and I believe Pratt can pass her, Ferguson whos playing Kostanic I cant see her winning this match unfortunately, which would see 2 Australians in the second round competing against one-another. I hope im wrong bout Ferguson losing but hey she could surprise me and others if she passes Kostanic.

Leyton Hewitt did well to come back from two sets down. I guess in the end it was a question of stamina. And even though Hewitt is no longer one of the best players. He is still one of the best when it comes to a test of endurance. Great win by Andy Murray dropping only one game. Shame he lost a game in the third set. He can certainly go all the way and win it without a doubt. The womens draw is boring at the moment with lack of shocks and lots of easy victories. Hingis for example might as well have had a walkover today.
