Sources have told us Smeltz is considering an offer from Fulham.

Smeltz caught the eye of the London club's scouts when he scored the late winner against the Cottagers in a pre-season friendly last year.

A Gold Coast spokesman said he is aware of the rumours surrounding Smeltz, but said they had not been officially approached by any clubs about a transfer.

Smeltz has two years to run on his contract with Gold Coast

This is fantastic news for New Zealand football, and Fulham. New Zealand now has a defender who helped plug Blackburn's gaping holes in their defense in the EPL (for a few years anyway), and now we'll have a striker who'll help Fulham stave off relegation for a few years.

Shane Smeltz is class, arguably the best Australasian striker since Winton Rufer. Golden Boot in the Aussie A-League two years running, easily the best striker in the competition. It's not even like he's had good midfielders feeding him in those two years either, with the Wellington Phoenix & Gold Coast.

It's a good time to be a New Zealander who likes football right now.
