Quote During a recent interview with Awful Announcing, Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio in WWE) discussed his time in WWE, getting fired the first time, his current travel schedule and more. You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On his time with WWE and getting fired the first time: “I worked for that company for eight years. My first run with the company, I got fired because I stood up for myself against a racist employee who was making racist jokes against Mexicans. That’s in the past, because the company ended up calling me again, we shook hands, we made peace and everything and I ended up going back for a second time. But when I was there, I realized that was not what I wanted any more. The company is the biggest company in the world when it comes to pro wrestling, it was the major leagues of pro wrestling, but after being there and making a name for myself, with them giving me a place to showcase my talent and show the world who Alberto Del Rio really is, I realized I didn’t need them any more.”

On his current travel schedule: “When you work for a company like that, you have to be on the road 220-230 days per year, and then I realized I could be making the same amount of money but doing only 120-150 days per year. So I decided to take it and go back to the indie circuit, the indie promotions, just to be my own boss. So I called the owner, Vince McMahon, I said ‘I don’t feel happy with what we’re doing at the moment, I don’t like the schedule, I want to be free again, so if you don’t mind, just let me go.’ I still had two months left on my contract, and he was asking me to stay for those two months, and I said ‘No, I want to leave now, I’m unhappy and I’m starting to lose the love, the passion for pro wrestling. And for someone who was born in the business like myself, that’s unacceptable, something like that is unacceptable, so just please let me go.’ And he did. So I started working for Combate, for Impact Wrestling, for all the indie promotions around the world. So now my calendar, I go all over the world, I go from England to Monterey, Mexico, to Washington to Europe to do something in Spain and then go back to do something in Mexico. But I’m enjoying myself, I’m enjoying my career again, I’m in love with pro wrestling once again, and I have time to spend with my family, I’m back with my kids, being involved in all their sports activities and their school activities, and I’m feeling better this way.”

Sounds like a savvy business man to be earning the same money, but from around three months less per year on the road.

He was born into the business, so for him to be falling out of love with it must have sucked.

Credit to Vince for not forcing him to work another two months, again showing how he thinks about the welfare of those in the industry.

Personally, i think alot of the comments he has made in that interview are bullshit.

Regarding his second run and realising he didnt need the company any more, i believe it is actually WWE who realised that Alberto isnt what the company needed.

They probably realised pretty quickly into his second run that he isnt all that and he wasnt going to be main event as per his first run - he wasnt happy with that and they decided to part ways - thats my view of how it went anyway

my own personal belief in his second run was that it was to undermine the almost hero status he was getting for his firing.

they showed that, despite the racism still being there, he was willing to take the money and go back with seemingly no guarantee that the producer would be kept away from him or any talent.

it was clear very quickly when he came back that there was no plan for him in regards to storyline or direction within the product.

Quote Alberto El Patron recently guest starred on Konnan’s podcast where he confirmed that he and Paige have indeed broken up. Del Rio claims that the break up stemmed from multiple reasons. The first reason being WWE’s hectic travel schedule would not allow the two of them to see each other very often. Second, WWE does not want Paige to move to San Antonio.

On top of that all, Del Rio claims that the media pressure, and spotlight on Paige’s scandal put lots of stress on the relationship. Ultimately they decided it was time to break up.

The fault of E for giving her such a heavy schedule and Paige for putting up with it.

The fault of E for telling her where they don't want her to live and Paige for putting up with it.

The fault of Paige that she got hacked so her past came back to haunt her.

In closing he isn't to blame at all for no longer being with her LOL
