Quote At this time, there is a growing concern within WWE that Alberto Del Rio will not be re-signing with WWE when his contract expires.

In the past, Del Rio has openly talked about retiring sooner rather than later.

He will be 37 years old in May, already had what he considers a full career in Mexico before coming to WWE, and has now grown frustrated since he went from a top guy to being fed to Batista.

There has been no word that he has been actively working on signing a new deal with the company , which has led to the concern internally that he will not re-sign when his current contract expires.

We'll keep you posted as we hear more.

He's got plenty of money and is probably homesick so it wouldn't be a surprise if he left.

He doesn't seem the type to keep going until crippled just to keep raking in the money.

Be cool for him to be a rare comodity of leaving whilst still in one piece physically.

Oh that's sort of a shame. I was just starting to get into him. I didn't realize he was so old though. I suppose if he wants to go then that's it.

Quote WWE United States Title Match: Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena

We go to the ring and out comes WWE United States Champion John Cena for his US Open Challenge. Fans start singing their own version of Cena’s song as he hits the ring.

Cena says he had a horribly long and boring promo planned but he’s ready to get down to business. Cena says he’s still the man to beat and kicks off the special edition US Open Challenge. Jack Swagger’s music hits and out comes Zeb Colter on a scooter.

Zeb has the music cut and the crowd was clearly expecting someone bigger. He says some people like Cena and some don’t. Zeb says it’s time for people from different backgrounds and different countries to come together. It’s time for Cena to lose the United States Title to someone who will do more with it than Cena ever has. Zeb introduces Cena’s opponent and out comes Alberto Del Rio to a big pop.

Lilian Garcia does formal ring introductions and they lock up to go at it. Fans chant “welcome back” to Del Rio. Del Rio takes control early on as Zeb looks on. Cena comes back and kicks Del Rio as they go to lock up. Cena takes it to the corner with rights and lefts. Cena charges in the opposite corner but Del Rio side steps and sends Cena to the mat. Del Rio works on the arm now.

Cena dodges the move on the ropes from Del Rio and Del Rio flies out to the floor. They come back in and Del Rio catches Cena in a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a 2 count. Del Rio keeps control and goes to the top for a big right hand and a 2 count. Del Rio keeps Cena down and works on the arm. Cena fights back but Del Rio ends up hitting the running enziguri for a 2 count. Del Rio goes back to the top for another right hand and a 2 count. Del Rio prepares for a cross armbreaker but Cena nails a big clothesline. They get up and trade shots in the middle of the ring. Cena with shoulder tackles and slam. Cena calls for the Five Knuckle Shuffle and nails it. Del Rio slides out of the Attitude Adjustment and hits a Backstabber. Del Rio with a huge kick to the face for the win.

Winner and New WWE United States Champion: Alberto Del Rio

– After the match, Del Rio celebrates as Cena is down on his back in the ring. Del Rio shakes hands with Zeb and raises his arm at ringside. They leave together.

It's not a shock he's returned as we all know he was talking to E. It's a huge shock he got a pretty damn easy clean victory though.

Wrongly fired in August 2015 and brought back already, probably because E realise they were in the wrong and because they have failed in the past year to create another big name Mexican market star.

It's a shame he's pandered to his employers on Twitter by thanking them for a second chance when he wasn't in the wrong.

He was in the wrong for slapping the non-wrestling employee, he just shouldn't have been fired. This was a zero tolerance loophole. WWE were bound to fire him because of their zero tolerance policy, which was stupid, and yes, if I were in his place I'd likely have done the same damned thing, so he's got my sympathy too, but he still shouldn't have done what he did. Firing was just over the top stupidity.

He's being mature.

He's a damned fine talent, and he's the right guy for that spot (I'd still like to see Owens and ADR switch places though. ADR is the worker, and a great technical wrestler suited to carrying the IC strap, Owens is the heavy hitting badass that is suited to being the US champ). The only thing I ever had a problem with was seeing him as WWE champion. That was too much for him at that point.

I don't mind seeing Bertie back however this title change should have been for someone else. The match itself sucked, I blame that on the booking as Cena has had the best matches since WM so this just sucked all the more.

I suppose I didn't really pay too close of attention to the match, focusing just on the fact that ADR was back, but it didn't seem like it was all that bad. Maybe I'd change my mind if I were to watch it again, this time without having the surprise of "OMG it's ADR!"

The match was reasonable enough, surprised at how quick and easy Del Rio picked up the win though, I think since Cena has been the lead face of the company this is possibly by far the soundest defeat he's suffered.

Good to see Del Rio back, as I've always said he's a quality high mid-card act, just not sure he can cut it as a headliner. Surprises me a little that WWE were so eager to get him back apparently they have agreed a very lucrative deal with Alberto that will see him earn decent money for a lighter than usual schedule.

I like the addition of Zeb Colter, he's a decent promo guy and verbals are not Del Rio's strong suit.

Quote The tapings that take place after the 4/22 “Redemption” pay-per-view could be the last for Alberto El Patron unless he agrees to take a deal that pays him less money.

As first reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, El Patron’s deal expires in the spring and he is the highest paid guy on the roster. The company is continuing with their cost-cutting so it’s unlikely that he’ll be staying with the company.

If you are wondering about a WWE return, that is unclear right now. I don’t know how WWE management feels about him considering some of the things he said about them last year. He did an interview earlier this week and said that he has apologized to Triple H but then said that the negative things he said last year were motivated by things Paige and her family said to him. In other words, he put the blame on them and they are the reason why he had so much hate for WWE.

El Patron has been talking about doing a retirement tour in 2019. He said that he doesn’t expect to return to WWE this year but he hopes that something could be worked out for next year. He wouldn’t want to go back full-time but would be open to being a “special appearance” wrestler. He claimed that he considers himself to be on good terms with WWE and “time heals all wounds.”

I did wonder if he’d be the next top star out the TNA exit as they are cleaning all the expensive contracts off the roster and I can’t imagine Alberto agreeing to a big reduction in pay.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him back in WWE under his Mexican million dollar man gimmick, not so keen on his bland serious Mexican wrestler gimmick. Would be good if he could agree terms for maybe a 1-2 year run in WWE to take him through to when he plans to retire.

There's no way they'd touch him after his outbursts etc. They've already given him two chances I can't see them stretching to a third.

The guy is a piece of shit he basically put the blame on Paige for his comments when the reality is he was in charge of his own damn mouth, he threatened the USOs and Xavier wpoda In addition to triple h himself as far as I'm concerned and as wwe are concerned they don't need him and he can fuck off back to mexico
