K, so I've been here 36 hours now, figured I'd give periodic updates and ask a shit-ton of questions for NFa and Oz, and any other Aussies we may have, to answer.

So, was here not 12 hours last night and some fucking Huntsman twice the size of any spider I've ever seen before took off from under a table right next to me. Not happy that it was only a "small" one. Fuck spiders, bro.

My sister has a snake (Children's Python, for those who know what that is), it's pretty hilarious. Saw it eat a mouse yesterday, was the funniest shit I've seen in a long time. They look ridiculously stupid with their mouths all stretched and things.

It's horrifically hot. 29 today, IN FUCKING WINTER. Record lows in January are at about 17 degrees. To clarify, in the civilised history of Brisbane, it has never dropped below 17 in January. Ever. On a shitty January day in Christchurch, we won't hit 17 at all. Only once has it ever gone below freezing at any time of year. It'll go below freezing multiple times daily in Christchurch in winter.

Also find it hilarious that one of the worst neighborhoods in Brisbane is called Deception Bay.

So, question time.

Anybody know anything about Queensland number plates? Some are black with white lettering, some white with maroon lettering, some white with blue, some white with green, some green with white, and the actual letters/numbers themselves make no sense. Confuses the shit out of me, and nobody seems to know what they're all about.

Also, WHY ARE YOUR SHIT GODDAMN FUCKING SUPERMARKET AISLES SO NARROW?! Went shopping today, it was the most infuriating experience of my life. If there are two trolleys down your aisle, you're not getting through that shit. It's simply not possible. And it sucks.

That is all.

Yes about time you did this! I get the feeling you're going to love all things creepy crawly Big smile

Watching snakes eat mice is pretty awesome I agree there, seeing the mouse slide down the snake is fun in the afterrmath  yes i'm a bit sadistic!

Also stop moaning about the heat, just be grateful you're out of earthquake zones Smile

Hadn't felt an earthquake in ages before I left. Only shit thing was the fact that there was no town, and therefore no night life.

I can almost guarantee that today it was hotter here than anywhere in the UK, despite it being fucking winter here. And it's supposed to be an awfully hot summer, even by Brisbane standards. 40+ and 100% humidity... can't wait.

LOL 29 degrees? Look out.

The shopping aisles are ridiculously small though I think its gotten worse recently with places wanting to fit an extra aisle in so they move every aisle closer together to fit it in.

I recommend not setting foot into Deception Bay or Inala LOL

The regular style of Number plate has changed so many times its not even funny. For ages we were called "The Sunshine State" but some idiot thought we should be called "The Smart State" which changed all number plates. Then as well every man and his god has customised number plates these days.

Fuck you, you're used to it.

The day I left Christchurch it got all the way up to 12. 29 is a rather significant jump, along with the humidity. Had to have a midday sleep and shit, it was awful.

1) Yeah, plan to be here for about ten years, give or take depending on what happens and all that.

2) Shit money. I can make literally twice as much here doing easier stuff than in New Zealand. At least, even if I end up working at McDonalds or some shit, I'd be making about $100 a week more.

3) Went by myself, but my sister and her family were over here already, so I'm staying with them until I get on my feet.

Also, Hungry Jack's is better than Burger King. Dunno what it is, but it's really good. Pisses me off that they don't have BBQ Bacon Double Cheeseburgers though.

Haven't tried anything else yet, I just forced my sister to go to Hungry Jacks as soon as we left the airport because it was absolutely necessary for me to know if there was any difference as quickly as possible LOL

We went in to the store because the drive through was busy, and we were told there would be a delay because some guy in the drive through had ordered six double cheeseburgers. For himself. At 9:30am. Actual conversation between the people working, as best I remember it:

"Six double cheeseburgers are ready."
"Turns out the guy doesn't want six double cheeseburgers."
"What? Why not? What did he want?"
"I asked him four times if he wanted six double cheeseburgers, he seemed pretty sure at the time. He wanted one cheeseburger"
"And he managed to accidentally order six doubles? Fucks sakes... Hang on."
Comes back with a single...
"Has he already paid?"
"Yeah, but he told us to keep it because he paid in EFTPOS."
"Alright then."

Great first impression of Australians LOL

I'm down in Sydney, but have visited Brisbane a few times and lived there for a year once. lolled that you've already met some of the wildlife Raven, it's spider central up there. Most spiders won't bother you if you leave them alone.

Safety tips for spiders/bugs.
1. Don't put your fingers anywhere where you'll lose sight of them. Always look first, or use a prod.
2. Don't slip your feet straight into shoes, always give them a tap on the floor first (by the toe) - anything hiding in them will jump out lol.
3. The more natural your surrounding get, the more you should do 1 and 2 + shaking clothing before putting it on LOL.

The only two spiders I ever worry about are Redbacks (Black Widows), and Funnelwebs. Hospitals have anti-venom for both.
Redbacks usually hide under stuff - hence watch where you put your fingers, especially outdoors. They'll bite you if you touch them. Makes adults sick, kills kids.
Funnelwebs are psycho and look fucking scary. My skin still crawls when I see them - huge fucking fangs, and they'll rear up at you and not back off. They'll bite anything that comes near them. Kills adults and kids. Scary, but you've got more chance of being eaten by a shark or croc than being bitten by a funnelweb.

Other fun house spiders - bug hunters.
Black House spiders: (they build tunnel like webs in corners). They don't wander, so if you leave them alone they won't bother you. Bite hurts like hell, and can make people sick.
Huntsmen: Gentle giants that pose no danger, you can even let them walk on you. Disconcerting when they hang on the ceiling over your head (lol) - if you try to shoo them away, they'll just let go of the ceiling and float down on you lmao - seen that a few times.
Wolf Spiders: Never bigger than 5-6mm long, very cute, and very smart. They'll wander about the house hunting but will keep away from people where possible.

Snakes (anti-venom exists for all):
Most snakes will do anything to avoid confrontation, and will bolt if they hear people coming - chatting/making noise as you walk in bush is good protection. On the east coast Brown/Black/Red-Belly Black are the most common - these guys, if you surprise them, or back them into a corner, will go at you. Safe to watch from a distance, and are fine if not threatened. Brown Snakes are the more poisonous of the three and more aggressive.

If you go out west, Scorpions enter the list, and truly scary snakes like the Death Adder - those bastards chase people, and can move faster than a person running lol. Death in some ridiculously small period of time.

Welcome to our nightmare bro Tongue
